• Unlimited mileage throughout the islands of Malta and Gozo.
• 24-hour Road Assistance and Breakdown Service across the island of Malta.

3.Fuel Policy (Same-to-Same)
All rentals operate on a fair "Same-to-Same" fuel policy.
The vehicle is supplied with a recorded level of fuel (typically full) and must be returned with the exact same level of fuel. We never charge mandatory prepaid fuel packages or forced fuel fees. If the car is returned with missing fuel, the client will be charged a refueling fee of €2.50 per litre + VAT, which covers the cost of missing fuel.
4.Late Returns, Grace Period & Return Location
Vehicles must be returned at the time and location stipulated in your rental agreement.
• Grace Period: A grace period of one (1) hour is granted past the contracted return time.
• Late Penalty: Returns exceeding the 1-hour grace period without prior written authorization will incur an additional day's rental charge plus applicable administrative and out-of-hours fees.
• Unauthorized Location: Terminating a rental at a different depot or location than agreed on the rental agreement will incur relocation and collection charges.
• Early Returns: No refunds or credits are granted for early returns or unused rental days.
5.Condition of Vehicle on Return & Cleaning Policy
The vehicle must be returned in the same condition as provided, ordinary road dust and normal wear and tear excepted.
Vehicles returned with wet upholstery, sand buildup, spilled liquids, animal hair, smoking odor, or excessive stains requiring specialized chemical valeting will be charged a professional valeting fee of minimum €50.00 + VAT.
6.Accepted Cards, Payments & Security Deposit Hold
A valid physical Credit or Debit Card in the main driver’s name is mandatory to formalize the rental agreement and guarantee the excess security deposit.
• Accepted Cards: Physical VISA and MasterCard with Chip & PIN. The renter must present their PIN number. Debit cards are accepted for the security deposit hold when selecting our Debit Card / Premium Damage Waiver (PDW) cover package.
• Maestro Cards: Accepted for rental fee payment only; NOT accepted as an excess guarantee.
• Not Accepted: American Express (Amex), virtual cards, and cash payments are NOT accepted.
• Third-Party Cards: If the main hirer does not possess a card, a third-party cardholder may provide the guarantee, provided they are physically present at the counter and registered as an additional driver.
• Pre-Authorization Deposit: A temporary hold (€250 to €1,000 depending on vehicle group) is placed on the renter's card for up to 30 days from the start of the rental. Pre-authorized amounts are released automatically by the issuing bank upon return of the vehicle undamaged and refueled.
7.Driver Age, Experience & Surcharges
Our standard policy covers drivers aged 25 to 70 with a minimum of 2 full years of driving experience.
Age Surcharges:
• Young Drivers (21–22 years): €9.00 per day extra.
• Young Drivers (23–24 years): €5.00 per day extra.
• Senior Drivers (71–74 years): €5.00 per day extra.
• Senior Drivers (over 74 years): €9.00 per day extra.
Additional Drivers: The primary driver can register up to three (3) additional drivers upon presentation of valid driving licenses and payment of the daily additional driver fee.
8.Excess Security Deposit & Insurance Liability
The security excess deposit varies between €250 and €1,000 depending on the vehicle category.
The excess deposit represents the maximum financial liability you are responsible for in the event of covered accidental damage or theft, subject to insurance conditions. This excess amount does not include VAT.
9.Insurance Cover Exceptions (Collision Damage Waiver)
Even when Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Premium Damage Waiver (PDW) is active, insurance does NOT cover damage arising from negligence, improper use, or specific excluded components. The renter remains fully liable for:
• Loss, damage, lockout, or theft of car keys (cutting, coding, and delivery).
• Underside chassis, sump, exhaust, and suspension damage from unpaved roads or curbs.
• Tyres, punctures, burst tyres, rims, wheels, and wheel hubcaps.
• Glass, windshield, mirrors, and vehicle exterior lights.
• Interior burns, tears, wet upholstery, and extreme dirtiness.
• Engine and fuel system damage caused by incorrect or contaminated fueling.
• Clutch or gearbox damage caused by driver abuse.
• Damage to child safety and baby booster seats.
• Flat battery caused by leaving lights, audio, or accessories on while parked.
• Loss, damage, or theft of personal belongings left inside the vehicle.
10.Accident and Damage Reporting Procedure
In the event of any collision, theft, or damage—regardless of how minor:
1. Contact Malta Car Rentals immediately at +356 7753 3743.
2. File an official Local Traffic Warden or Police Report (tel: 112 / 2132 0202) at the scene.
3. Visit our nearest office to complete an insurance claim statement and damage report.
Failure to file a police/warden report and inform our office immediately will automatically void all insurance cover, making the renter 100% financially liable for all vehicle and third-party damages, towing, and loss of revenue while the car is being repaired.
11.Vehicle Pre-Rental Inspection
Our staff inspects each vehicle before collection. All existing imperfections are documented on the Vehicle Damage Report, which the hirer inspects and signs upon key handover.
Hirers are urged to check the vehicle properly at the start and end of their rental and to notify our staff of any damage not found on the damage report. Failure to report damages at hand-over may result in charges being attributed to your rental.
12.24/7 Roadside Assistance & Breakdown Service
Complimentary basic roadside assistance is provided across the island of Malta 24/7.
• Breakdown Cover: Includes basic assistance for mechanical failures and accidents (subject to applicable excess).
• Exclusions: Does not cover driver-induced negligence (flat battery from lights left on, punctures, lost keys, wrong fuel). Non-covered callouts in Malta incur a service fee of €45 – €75 payable directly to the towing provider.
• Island of Gozo: Breakdown service is not provided free on Gozo. Roadside assistance callouts on Gozo range between €50 and €170, payable directly to the service contractor. Emergency assistance contacts are attached to the vehicle key tag.
13.Flat & Punctured Tyres
Roadside assistance can assist in replacing a flat tyre with the spare wheel for a service fee. Tyres, rims, and wheels are not covered by standard CDW or excess waiver. Replacement of damaged tyres, rims, and puncture repairs remain at the renter’s direct expense.
14.Traffic Violations, Speeding Fines & Penalty Points
The hirer is solely responsible for all parking citations, bus lane violations, and speeding camera fines incurred during the rental period.
• Self-Payment: Fines paid directly online (via les.gov.mt) or at any Local Council office before departure incur zero administration fees.
• Company Processing: Any fines settled or redirected by Malta Car Rentals will incur an administration fee of €50.00 (VAT included) per ticket.
• Penalty Points: Accumulating 12 or more penalty points during the rental immediately voids insurance coverage and results in immediate contract termination with no refund for remaining days.
15.Lost & Stolen Car Keys
Vehicle keys are high-security electronic units and are not covered by insurance. The renter is strictly responsible for replacement, laser cutting, electronic recoding, delivery of spare keys, and any vehicle downtime costs resulting from key loss, lockout, or water immersion.
16.Flight Details & Late Arrival Reservation Holding
Reservations will be held for up to one (1) hour past the reserved pick-up time. Providing an accurate flight number is required for all airport collections so our operations team can track inbound flight delays.
If a customer arrives more than 1 hour past the requested time without prior notification, the confirmed collection arrangement may be cancelled. We will try to arrange an alternative, but this cannot be guaranteed and applicable cancellation terms will apply.
17.Cancellation Policy & No-Show Terms
• Free Cancellation: You can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before your scheduled pick-up date and time for a full refund of any online booking deposit.
• Cancellations under 48 Hours: Non-refundable.
• How to Cancel: All cancellations must be submitted in writing by email to hello@maltacarrentals.mt quoting your booking reference.
• No-Show Policy: A no-show occurs if:
1. You do not collect the car at the arranged time without prior notice.
2. You fail to present valid driving licences and required identification.
3. You fail to provide an eligible Credit/Debit card in the main driver's name with sufficient funds for the security deposit hold.
In any of these cases, the booking is forfeited and no refund is payable.
18.Bookings and confirmation
Bookings are confirmed for an ACRISS vehicle category/group (e.g., Economy 5-door, Compact Automatic, SUV), not for a specific make, model, or color.
Vehicle images displayed on the website are representative samples. MaltaCarRentals.mt supplies the selected model or a comparable equivalent in the same category.
19.Passenger Capacity & Child Seat Safety
The number of passengers must never exceed the legal capacity and seatbelts fitted in the vehicle. Overcrowding invalidates insurance cover.
Child seats, booster seats, and baby capsules are available for hire. In accordance with safety regulations and insurance policies, rental staff do not fit child seats into the car; child seats must be fitted securely by the parent or guardian.
20.Governing Law & Maltese Jurisdiction
This agreement is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malta. Any questions or disputes arising between the renter and MaltaCarRentals.mt fall within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of Malta.
